ABSTRACT: Anybody who spends time reading the technical press runs a good chance of having read at least one article about graphene. Most of what is written in the popular press paints the picture of a miracle material that can do anything, but as with any new discovery there is a combination of hype and reality. This presentation will help you understand:

• The hype vs. the reality
• The basics of nano technology and how they apply
• Some of the challenges in using graphene effectively
• The challenges of scaling up a process
• What markets currently exist
• What markets are in active development

SPEAKER: Steve Rodgers has been a SAMPE member since 1985 and was International President in 2010. It is his delight to make complex subjects understandable and relatable, even by non-technical people. His passion for advanced materials began with his work in carbon fiber on the Hubble Space Telescope and has extended to include metallics, ceramics, polymers, elastomers and nano materials, to name just a few. Steve is the Founder and CTO of EmergenTek LLC™, a consultancy involved in the commercialization of advanced and emergent technologies, including graphene. He likes long walks on the beach, but for that he prefers to leave his home state of Utah for some place with better waves.
