ABSTRACT
AGY Holding Corporation, spun off from Owen's Corning in 1998, is the historical manufacturer of the fiberglass yarns used in the well-known 7781, 6781, and 120 woven fabrics used extensively in aerospace. The presentation will provide an overview of the glass manufacturing process, the various product forms made by AGY, and examples of products made by AGY's customers that take advantage of specific enhanced properties. In addition, a comparison of the properties of S-2 versus Carbon fiber will be made, along with an examples of how these fiber can be used together to maximize the final part performance.
BIO
Mike Palmer is the Western Regional Sales Manager for AGY Holding Corporation. He is the son of Raymond Palmer, the retired Boeing Technical Fellow and SAMPE George Lubin award winner. He earned a BS in Mechanical and Environmental Engineering from UC Santa Barbara and a Master's in Business Administration from Pepperdine University. He officially started his career in composites 1994 upon graduation from UCSB. He started as a materials and process engineer with McDonnell Douglas just before the Boeing merger, then he opened his own distribution company, Balboa Composites, which became the exclusive agent for SAERTEX, and now he's been with AGY for just over 2 years.
