Research Vehicle C2C - Coast to Coast on One Tank of Gas and ATR-1
Bob Schureman - Materials Instructor at the Art Center College of Design,
Consultant at Irvine Valley College /ATEP
Bob will give a presentation of developing a research vehicle called the C2C
with the goal of a world record
coast-to-coast drive on one tank of gas. The challenge was to design, build
and demonstrate a street and freeway legal vehicle using existing technology
that could go from California to New York on one sealed 25-gallon tank of
gasoline available at standard gas pumps. The C2C holds two passengers and
is enclosed. It weighs less than 1,500 pounds and has three wheels and is
classified as a motorcycle. It will be able to cruise at freeway speeds and
as a motorcycle can use carpool lanes.
Bob is also developing the ATR1 Research Vehicle. The tooling for the ATR-1
vehicle is being fabricated at Cerritos Composite Lab. Using students from
the Irvine Valley College/ATEP , Art Center College of Design, Art
Institute of Design, and Cerritos College. Two cars will be built to
utilize new materials and processes. The first will be a Gas vehicle and the
second will be an Electric vehicle Using new battery and cooling technology.
Bob's specialization is in Plastics Technology, High Tech Materials and
Processing, 3-D Modeling, Mold Making and Technical Consultation on Plastics
and High Tech Materials. His Achievements and Awards include The California
Governor's Award and Outstanding Teacher Award. He is a member of the
Society of Plastic Engineers and the Association of Professional Mold
Makers. Current Activities include developing a new curriculum and course
for Irvine Valley College for Design, Model Making and Rapid Prototyping.
Bob is a project consultant for the development of a new Advanced Technology
facility at the former Tustin Helicopter base to facilitate advanced
research for corporate and educational institutions on a national and
international bases. Bob is also an instructor at the Art Center College of
Design: Plastics Technology and Advanced Materials and Processes.
