"Low Cover Factor (LCF ™) Reinforcing Fabrics for FRP" with
Vince Bailey - President - Composite Specialists
And a technical representative of DeComp Composites, LLC based in Laguna Hills, CA
ABSTRACT
Low Cover Factor (LCF ™) Reinforcing Fabrics are comprised of warp and off-axis directed reinforcing fibers of carbon, fiberglass or aramid which are “non-woven” bound by a lightweight open mesh carrier. The reinforcing fibers are oriented to provide “off-axis” loading strength (30 to 70 degrees off warp) as well as warp direction if desired. LCF ™ describes the nature of the reinforcing fibers’ spacing, low loading and areal weight. Applications are new designs or re-engineered laminate constructions benefiting from the unique fiber orientation for increased strength and/or reduced structural weight. The nature of LCF ™ has demonstrated an improved laminate “wet-out” for re-engineered laminates impregnated via resin infusion processes.
