Development of Graphite Structures Technology
With
Dr. James Leslie - ACPT Inc.
Huntington Beach, CA
ABSTRACT
The first structural graphite hardware to fly on an air plane was a wing tip for the Northrop's F-5 fighter.
This was followed by NASA's demonstration of spoilers on the 737. The first structural component into space was a graphite truss on the ATS satellite. These demonstrations paved the way for the universal acceptance of graphite structures in current aircraft.
Use and acceptance of graphite in commercial/industrial, military, automotive, and sporting goods applications paralleled the history in aerospace. Many illustrations of specific items and the associated technology development will be presented.
