Orange County SAMPE Meeting Notice
Wed., Oct. 16th, 2019 at 6 p.m.
Presentation by Dr. Scott W. Beckwith - SAMPE Global Technical Director & BTG Composites, Inc. President
Topic - Composite Automation in Aerospace Manufacturing and a Look at Automotive High-Rate Production Advances
ABSTRACT
Automation continues to expand in producing composite aerospace parts and structural components. The era of ATL (automated tape laying) and FW (filament winding) progressed into AFP/ATP (automated fiber placement/tow placement) -- and further into "robotic operations". What has been the history? What is new in terms of materials, machines, processing techniques and advances? What has the market seen with all these advances? Furthermore, automotive requirements for increased fuel efficiency and lightweight directives has also driven that industry to look at both "materials", "processing" and "automation". Numerous advances in the automotive arena will be presented. At the same time a look at automotive and aerospace suggests thoughts of interaction moreso these days for each segment to assess mutual interest areas. (The PPT presentation will also be made available to attendees through the Chapter representatives.)
BTG Composites will donate $200 to the SAMPE Student Chapter with the most attendees at the meeting.
